Privacy, in plain language.
This describes the current browser-based version of Typing Ground. Updated 20 October 2026.
What stays on your device
Typing Ground processes your typing and custom practice passages in your browser. The application does not upload the text you type, custom passages, or the optional name entered on a practice record.
Preferences and up to 500 completed results are stored in local storage. Results include test settings, completion time, WPM, accuracy, error counts, per-key statistics and speed samples. They do not contain the full text you typed or your optional record name. There is no account or cross-device synchronisation.
Storage and your choices
You can export results as CSV or clear history from Progress. Preferences remain after clearing history. Clearing this site’s browser data removes both results and preferences. If storage is blocked or full, the tools continue working but newly saved results may last only for the current visit.
Requests needed to load the site
Opening a page sends ordinary network information, such as your IP address, requested URL and browser details, to the hosting infrastructure. Hosting providers may retain technical request or security logs under their own policies. The application has no advertising or account database. Optional Google Analytics is enabled only after you select “Allow analytics”. Before that choice, the analytics script is not loaded and the application sends no analytics events.
Optional analytics
If you opt in, Google Analytics receives visits to public pages, browser and device information, approximate location derived by Google, and test-start and completion events. Test events contain settings and aggregate WPM and accuracy; they exclude typed characters, custom passages, names, per-key statistics and stored history. The private Progress route is excluded. Analytics is limited to the production domain, and advertising personalisation and Google signals are disabled.
Analytics may use first-party cookies for up to 60 days. Use “Analytics preferences” at the bottom of the page to refuse or withdraw consent; refusal does not limit any typing feature. Withdrawing disables future collection and removes this site’s Analytics cookies, but does not delete data previously processed by Google. You can also clear site data in your browser. Read Google’s privacy policy for its processing details. Reports cover consenting visitors and will not represent every visit.
Downloads and practice text
Downloads and printed practice records are generated on your device. Choose practice text you have permission to use. Avoid putting sensitive personal or workplace information into shared devices, exported files or screenshots.
Changes to this notice
If account synchronisation, analytics, advertising or other data-handling features are introduced, this notice should be updated to describe them before they are enabled.
