Arts & Crafts, Books & Maps, Notes & Plans, Tools & Materials. Read the two sides of each label before typing the ampersand between them and moving to the next group.
Type the displayed passage in order. Backspace corrects the last character. Paste is disabled. Escape pauses. Control or Command plus Enter restarts. Leaving the input pauses the timer.
How to practise ampersands in names and labels
Locate & on your keyboard before the run. On common US and UK layouts it is entered with Shift, but other layouts differ. In the supplied phrases a space usually sits on each side. Read the whole label so that you do not omit the second word while concentrating on the symbol.
What to check after a run
Check for a digit entered instead of &, an extra space, or an automatic replacement with and. The fictional names are practice text, not references to real organisations.

1. Find the pattern
Arts & Crafts, Books & Maps, Notes & Plans, Tools & Materials. Read the two sides of each label before typing the ampersand between them and moving to the next group.
2. Connect the movement
The event includes Design & Print, Make & Mend, and Read & Share. A folder marked Questions & Answers contains the welcome notes. All group names in this exercise are invented.
3. Apply it in context
For the community display, Ellis placed a sign reading Paper & Paint beside the workshop table. Another sign, Maps & Memories, pointed to a box of old photographs. The team checked the spacing around each ampersand before printing a larger set of labels.
