Build a drill around a real mistake

Choose keys you missed in a typing result, or begin with the F and J preset. Build my drill creates twenty groups of three characters using your selected keys. You can include up to sixteen unique English letters, digits or semicolon. Repeated selections are combined; spaces and unsupported characters do not become practice keys.

These generated groups are movement exercises, not meaningful words. Start with two or three keys so you can notice where your hand needs to move. The timer begins with your first typed character and finishes at the end of the displayed passage. Backspace is available, but corrected mistakes remain in accuracy.

Change one thing at a time

The Home row, Left hand and Numbers presets give you quick starting points. A new drill changes the sequence without changing your chosen key set. Building another drill resets an unfinished attempt, so finish a run before changing settings if you want to keep its result.

After a clean drill, connect the same movements to real language in paragraph practice. A short session of Falling Letters provides a different recognition task. Repeating only random groups does not show how you handle sentence reading, spaces, capitals or punctuation.

Understand the result and storage

WPM uses correct characters remaining in the answer divided by five and by active minutes. A short, familiar drill can produce a volatile or unusually high score, so compare it with another run using the same keys rather than with a one-minute paragraph test. Custom text results are personal practice records, not official certificates.

Selected keys are processed on this page. Typing Ground does not upload the drill or your answer. Completed results can save aggregate scores and missed-key statistics in this browser, subject to storage availability. Read the scoring guide, review private Progress, or begin with home-row technique if the movements are unfamiliar.
