How to practise question marks and answers

A question can end after a short word or a much longer phrase. Keep looking ahead so that the mark does not arrive as a surprise. Keyboard layouts place it differently; locate your own question-mark key before the run. This is transcription practice, not a test of whether you can compose a question.

What to check after a run

Check whether you entered a slash instead of a question mark, missed the following capital, or added an unnecessary space before the mark. Use the exact visible target on your keyboard layout.

1. Find the pattern

Are you ready? Is the door open? Where is the folder? Who has the key? Can we start now? Read each question, then copy the mark before continuing.

2. Connect the movement

When does the train leave? It leaves at noon. Which desk should I use? The one beside the window. Have you checked the list? Yes, every item is there.

3. Apply it in context

Could you confirm the room number? I wrote Room 8, but the notice says Room 6. Has the meeting moved? Please check the latest message before setting out. Should I bring the printed agenda? A copy on your device will be enough.
