How to practise similar-sounding words

Use the visible spelling rather than an imagined spoken version. You do not need to decide which word belongs in a blank; every target is supplied. Read punctuation with the word, especially the apostrophe in a contraction. These samples are for exact transcription rather than an assessment of language proficiency.

What to check after a run

If you typed a sound-alike alternative, slow down before the next similar word and look at its internal letters.

Read the three original exercises

Preview the exact targets before choosing a run. Counts include spaces and punctuation after whitespace normalisation.

1. Find the pattern

their there they're your you're its it's to too two here hear right write

2. Connect the movement

They're placing their samples over there. You're welcome to compare your draft with the earlier version. It's a paper model, and its title is written beside the map.

3. Apply it in context

Two readers came to hear the short introduction. One stood here while the other moved to the right of the display. They wanted to write a note too. Copy the visible word in each position rather than relying only on how the sentence sounds.
