How to practise year-first dates

Use the group widths as a guide: four year digits, two month digits and two day digits. Leading zeros remain part of the target. These dates are sample records, not appointments. Read each group before typing instead of assuming that the next entry differs only in its last digit.

What to check after a run

When you review a mismatch, ask whether it was a digit error or a switched month and day. A familiar-looking date can still be copied in the wrong order.

1. Find the pattern

2026-01-08 2026-11-03 2025-09-21 2027-02-14 2026-06-05 2025-12-30

2. Connect the movement

Draft: 2026-03-09. Review: 2026-03-19. Archive: 2026-04-02. The sample filenames begin with 2025-08-11 and 2026-08-01.

3. Apply it in context

The training log starts on 2026-05-07, resumes on 2026-05-17 and closes on 2026-06-01. Keep the hyphens between groups. Copy the older reference 2025-11-09 separately so the year does not carry over from the previous entries.
