How to practise numbers inside sentences

Read a few words ahead so the change to digits does not interrupt your posture. Numbers inside prose need the same care as standalone records, but the surrounding sentence can distract you. Copy numerals as numerals and written number words as words; do not rewrite the source into a different style.

What to check after a run

Check whether errors cluster at the first digit after a word. Slow that transition, then restore your normal pace across the surrounding sentence rather than rushing the entire line.

1. Find the pattern

There are 24 seats in room 3 and 18 seats in room 4. Copy 12 labels before sorting the remaining 36 cards.

2. Connect the movement

The practice display has 125 small tiles, 48 medium tiles and 9 large tiles. Two trays are empty, while tray 6 contains 27 blue counters.

3. Apply it in context

A fictional library note records 204 returned cards on shelf 12 and 142 cards on shelf 21. The assistant checks 16 folders before lunch, then 23 afterward. Copy the written words and the numerals as they appear instead of converting either form.
