How to practise interview transcript copying

Read the speaker label at every turn. The text is scripted for typing practice and is not a recording or a real interview. Whitespace is normalised, so the exercise measures wording and punctuation rather than transcript line layout. Do not add filler words that are not present in the source.

What to check after a run

Check the label before reviewing a sentence. A correct answer placed after the wrong speaker label changes the structure of the exchange.

1. Find the pattern

Q: Which draft did you open first? A: I opened the blue one. Q: What did you notice? A: The title was easier to find.

2. Connect the movement

Interviewer: Where would you look for the index? Participant: I'd check the first page. Interviewer: Why there? Participant: That's where I expected the overview in this fictional booklet.

3. Apply it in context

Q: Does the sample need another heading? A: I'm not sure; I'd compare it with the earlier version. Q: What would you check next? A: I'd read the caption beside the map. Copy the scripted exchange exactly rather than supplying your own answers to the questions.
