How to practise possessive apostrophes

Look at the ending before you start each phrase. The neighbour's gate and the neighbours' gate contain similar letters in a different order. The exercise is not asking you to choose a grammar rule from memory; the correct target is already visible. Slow down at the last few characters of the word.

What to check after a run

Review the exact position of the apostrophe and any capital on a person's name. If you keep omitting the final s, practise that full word once before repeating the sentence.

1. Find the pattern

2. Connect the movement

The team's notes were in Jordan's bag. Outside the room, the volunteers' notice listed tomorrow's tasks. Each person's copy had a different coloured cover and a space for comments.

3. Apply it in context

Maya checked the gardeners' schedule before opening the shed. The supervisor's note asked everyone to return the group's tools by six. She left her colleague's gloves on the table and put the visitors' spare badges in a box.
