How to practise serial number groups

Use the separators as checkpoints rather than racing through the entire string. The examples are made-up inventory labels, not product activation keys or payment data. Keep each group at its stated length. Reading aloud internally can help distinguish repeated digits from a single held key.

What to check after a run

Compare one group at a time after a mismatch. Watch for a missing repeat, such as 88 becoming 8, and for a digit borrowed from the next group.

1. Find the pattern

2. Connect the movement

3. Apply it in context

The fictional stock note lists unit 4408-1920-0073 and spare 4408-1290-0037. Although the prefixes match, the remaining groups differ. Copy each complete identifier into the exercise rather than assuming that one label can be reused for both items.
