How to practise words with silent letters

Use your eyes as the reference. Words such as write and knee contain letters that may be silent in familiar pronunciations. This lesson does not judge accents or speech; it is a keyboard copying exercise. The target spelling is supplied, so no audio or vocabulary test is required.

What to check after a run

Review the beginning and ending of each word. If you omit an unspoken letter, repeat the short sample before increasing pace.

1. Find the pattern

2. Connect the movement

Write the note before you wrap the sample. A quiet knock came from the workshop door. The comb-shaped paper model rested beside a drawing of an island.

3. Apply it in context

The fictional guide asks the reader to write an honest description of the paper display. A wrapped sample sits beside the doorway, and a small note marks the wrong reference. Copy every visible letter, including those you may not hear when reading the words to yourself.
