How to practise survey instructions

Distinguish instructions from response options as you read. The examples ask about a paper design and do not collect feedback or personal information. Copy the questions and the choices exactly. A number in a response scale is part of the text, not a score you should enter for yourself.

What to check after a run

Check the scale endpoints and question marks. Do not replace a supplied choice with your own opinion while transcribing it.

Preview the exact targets before choosing a run. Counts include spaces and punctuation after whitespace normalisation.

1. Find the pattern

Read the sample leaflet first. Which heading is easiest to find? Choose one option: A, B or C. Do not write a name on this fictional feedback card.

2. Connect the movement

Practice question: how clear is the example map? Scale: 1 means unclear, 5 means very clear. Second question: which label would you read first? Copy the questions, not an answer.

3. Apply it in context

The fictional feedback sheet asks whether the title, index or illustration helped the reader most. It then asks for one suggested change. These are typing targets rather than an active survey. Preserve the order of the instructions and keep the final question separate from its example response options.
